Psychosocial and Medical Rehabilitation

PSYCHOSOZIALE UND MEDIZINISCHE REHABILITATION is the independent professional journal for people who do practical clinical work in inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation, conduct research, or are otherwise involved in these fields of care (e.g., as employees of social insurance companies, clinic providers, or in health care administration). The journal was founded in 1987 under the title "Praxis Klinische Verhaltensmedizin und Rehabilitation" and is published with four issues per year (print and digital). A selection of articles is additionally published online in English without access restriction (open access).

Rehabilitation means treatment of chronic diseases.

Modern rehabilitation is based on a biopsychosocial understanding of illness and health, as used, for example, in the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF, WHO 2001). Topics covered in the journal against this background include disease management, health promotion, patient education and counseling, and current medical treatment concepts.

Rehabilitation is not intended to be an isolated entity within the health care system – therefore, articles or focus issues are also published on related topics that are important in their interconnectedness with rehabilitation, such as occupational psychology topics (related to medical-occupational rehabilitation) or case management approaches in health care.

The journal's contributions include information, research findings, and critical reflections. Although the German-speaking target groups dominate, numerous contributions with simultaneous high international relevance are published: Reviews, individual studies, practice reports, case reports, commentaries. The journal is open to approaches from the humanities as well as the natural sciences.

The scientific quality is ensured by a qualified peer review process. Authors, editors, reviewers and publishers are guided by internationally accepted standards:

-  Professional ethical guidelines of the German Psychological Society
    (www.dgps.de/index.php?id=85)

-  Committee on Publication Ethics
    (www.publicationethics.org/guidance)

-  DGPs guidelines for manuscript preparation, 5th edition 2019
    (www.psychologie.uni-frankfurt.de/90080017/DGPs_Richtlinien_zur_Manuskriptgestaltung_2019.pdf)

The journal offers continuous empirical-scientific reflection on therapeutic practice – mostly in the form of special issues plus various separata.
